The Wind in my Closet

I found myself in a closet yesterday
And it felt nothing like Narnia
I was faced with the horrors of doom
And crawling in there are the faces of gloom
I see hungry claws and fangs in the dark
And they are thirsty for blood – my blood
With all might, I try to take flight
But I am repressed by the weight of judgment
Subdued by the fear of never being loved
Overwhelmed by the thoughts of ever losing love

Fear!

That I grab the doorknob but fear to open up
That I make new friends but scare to loosen up
Now I sleep with the skeletons that rot
And I’m clinging to the last stem of sanity I’ve got
I see trust as fragile that blows with the wind
And the wind, they say, sings songs
I don’t want the wind singing my song
So I choose to remain in this closet
Until the wind promises to be calm
And play me a different song.
